Responsibilities & Qualifications:
- Provide day to day coordination of project teams to assure timely and accurate engineering product delivery.
- Serve as an arbiter and facilitator for resolution of technical issues.Assure that the Los Alamos office maintains technical and professional excellence in the local discipline groups.
- Work with Discipline Leads/Representatives to assure adequate resources to meet project and business unit requirements at the local office site.
- Provide management oversight of local discipline capital and training budgets.
- Recommend innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Advise on engineering trends, legal and technical challenges in the engineering environment and support senior management with risk assessment and mitigation.
- Be a recognized leader in the field of engineering and will be actively involved in professional and community organizations that promote engineering.
- Establish and promote systems and policies for the assurance of engineering excellence.
- Provide technical guidance and management oversight to engineering Discipline Leads/Representatives.
- Works directly with the Office Leader, Project Managers, Discipline Leads/Representatives and clients to assure engineering product quality, technical appropriateness and timely delivery.
- Documents decision making processes, and defines technical path forward to solving complex critical design management problems.
- Authors technical papers for publication/presentation in professional society settings.
- Supports proposal writing, cost estimating for engineering services and may serve as a Program Manager for major contracts.
- Will function as Project Manager on assigned projects.Minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in Department of Energy (DOE) projects or in related field, with ten (10) years experience related to specific area of expertise.
- Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs.
- Extensive progressive experience with subject matter required (with some hands-on experience desired).
- Familiarity with 3D design software (Pro/E preferred) desired.
- Experience with supplier support, factory testing and field startup desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in a client liaison role related to project management or organizational leadership.
- Minimum of seven (7) years as a design engineer.
- Minimum of ten (10) years as a Project or Engineering Manager.
- Minimum of five (5) years in an organizational leadership position with responsibility for ten (10) or more employees.US Citizenship required.
- PE license required. Candidate will be expected to obtain a PE license in New Mexico.
- Registration as a Project Management Professional thru the Project Management Institute preferred.
- Active DOE security clearance desirable. Applicant must be able to obtain a DOE clearance.
- Post graduate work in field desirable.
