Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Provides leadership to Managers within a function or region; may also manage first-line supervisors and/or professional staff.
  • Possesses an in-depth functional expertise and broad business knowledge.
  • Applies managerial expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives within own area.
  • Influences customers and/or organizational leadership to accomplish operational objectives.
  • Anticipates demands to align operational priorities.
  • Develops relationships with key internal/external customers to identify emerging needs.
  • Provides technical support and verifies compliance with company and client on Environmental Health and Safety policies, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, and other job-specified procedures or standards.
  • Resolves operational, customer, employee or technical issues that impact the effectiveness of own area.
  • Interprets business issues and adapts work priorities in own area.
  • Develops plans and coordinates resources to meet operational objectives within own area.
  • Plans and implements Health and Safety aspects of project-related work, including allocation of personnel and resources to ensure proper manpower utilization and to provide technical project support.
  • Schedules, coordinates and conducts project EHS audits and inspections in order to identify and assist in correcting unsafe and unhealthy work conditions or practices.
  • Communicates results of audits and overall Health and Safety performance to management as necessary.
  • Implements procedures for group medical programs, accident reporting, insurance claims handling, employee training, and EHS record keeping to ensure that the frequency of work-related accidents, injuries and illnesses does not create a significant financial impact to the company.
  • Anticipates and interprets customer needs and identifies solutions.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of loss control programs and implements corrective action.
  • Participates in EHS and high level management/project meetings.
  • Evaluates proposals from an EHS impact and technical approach.
  • May also take active role presenting proposals to prospective clients.
  • Manages their staffs' performance through goal setting, ongoing assessment and coaching.
  • Influences customer and/or organizational leadership to accomplish operational objectives.
  • Ability to effectively resolve complex issues that have implications beyond own area.
  • Ability to explain difficult concepts while persuading other to adopt a common point of view is required.
  • Keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. External contacts include clients at work locations and regulatory agencies.
  • Internal contacts include business line presidents and VP's, risk management personnel, Health and Safety personnel and office managers.
  • External contacts include clients at work locations and regulatory agencies.
  • Extensive experience with DOE projects.
