Responsibilities & Qualifications:
- Provide technical design in accordance with USACE and District policy and requirements to include efficient use and adaptability of relevant geotechnical software programs, produce draft and final construction plans and specifications in accordance with USACE and District CADD standards and software, make field site visits and recon nascence as appropriate for design, and effectively communicate within the project design team environment.
- Assess a site for geotechnical impacts to a project.
- Design soil and rock subsurface investigation programs.
- Write comprehensive scopes of work for geotechnical investigations.
- Select appropriate soil and rock testing and interpret such results to support design.
- Develop subsurface soil profiles for design and contract drawings.
- Perform bearing capacity, settlement, heave, seepage, slope stability analyses, and appropriate seismic assessments and design.
- Design stable slopes, building foundations, seepage cutoff walls, dams, levees, drain systems, and pavements.
- Design engineer shall have experience with design on structures and earth systems in and of expansive soils, full breath of structural foundation types, design and field construction oversight experience, failure mode analyses, risk assessment, and lab testing to include classification of soil and rock in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
- Design engineer shall have experience in the inspection and evaluation of levees and dams and responsible charge of their assessment reports.
- Design engineer shall have experience in the design to Corps of Engineers criteria and have had designed Corps projects.
- Design engineer shall have experience with and be proficient in CADD MicroStation, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, UTEXAS4, gINT, ArcGIS, and PCASE pavement design and produce products from these applications.
- Write clear, professional, and grammatically correct foundation and pavement design analyses and field trip reports in USACE and District required formats.
- Write clear, professional, and grammatically correct design support documentation, memos, and other correspondence.
- Work effectively in multidiscipline teams.
- Perform work to complete within assigned schedules, within budget, without sacrifice of quality.
- Coordinate with Section supervisor, senior engineers, and project managers as appropriate to ensure success of project.
- Be proactive in such coordination.
- Be able to work independently with minimal guidance performing duties applying a thorough knowledge of established procedures and engineering principles and practices.
- Meetings may be scheduled as needed and upon request by representatives from the Engineering & Construction, Engineering Services Branch Office, Geotechnical Section, or the Contractor.
- A minimum of a BS degree in Civil Engineering and professional registration required.
