Proposal Director Hydro

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Hydro Proposal Director  with 10 - 20 years of experience in the power generation industry.
  • Must have a technical background as either a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer and if the individual also had project management experience in hydro projects this would be ideal.
  • This successful individual will manage the preparation and submission of proposals from solicitation to final transmission to the end client.
  • The proposals are specific to major turbine refurbishment and upgrade projects in the hydro electrical generation industry. 
  • Responsibilities include: preparing the overall proposal plan and proposal timeline, with an eye for evaluating the solicitation from the client for risk and opportunity and then assembling a final proposal that is responsive to the clients need and time frame and represents an attractive commercial offer.
  • Experienced in executing proposal efforts for large scale turbine replacement and turbine refurbishment projects throughout Canada and the US including both commercial and US Army Corps of Engineers as clientele.
  • The proposal Director  will be involved in producing and managing the responses to multiple solicitations.
  • The person must be able to operate in an entrepreneurial an autonomous way as well as working within a large company reporting structure. 
  • The right person is going to have to have superior relationship-building, writing and verbal communication skills. PDs interface heavily with Executive Management, Project Mangers, Engineers and personnel associated with:  Turbines, Generators, Controls, Auxiliary Equipment, Procurement and Logistics.
  • We are process oriented and focus on risk control.
  • Proposals are vetted through management reviews and you, the PD, will drive this process.
  • Reviews solicitation with the sales team, customer and the proposed PM.
  • Defines scope of work, objectives and budget, and then prepares and launches proposal effort.
  • Manages the department budget.
  • Lead and participate as a member of the  proposal team with input from Sales, Project Mangers, Engineering  Procurement, Project Scheduling and  Outside Vendors.
  • The ultimate purpose is to secure work at  minimum risk / maximum profit margin.
  • BS in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • The preferred individual will be a US citizen who resides in Canada or who will relocate to Canada.
  • Since many clients are in Quebec, we prefer French language skills but it is not a requirement.
  • Meets deadlines always - no exceptions.
  • Proposals produced are winning proposals.
  • A minimum of ten years-experience with hydro power plants and/or hydro generators.
  • Demonstrated history of successful proposal development and project leadership experience, including scheduling and controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and empowerment skills. 
  • Successful negotiation skills.
  • Must have the ability to manage several proposals simultaneously with dollar values in excess of $100M$ at any given time.
  • Self control under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Excellent listening and communications skills.
  • Able to influence and lead project team; able and willing to work effectively at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Good business acumem and knowledge of engineering and financial fundamentals.
  • Stable work history with the majority of positions being in excess of 5 years each.
