Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer will serve as a lead professional engineer for teams of engineers and designers in the equipment design group.
  • A degreed and licensed professional engineer that is capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Delegates work to other engineers and checks work for their projects.
  • Assists and develops design criteria, manages work scope, schedule and budgets.
  • Assists with staff planning and reviews.Establish and promote discipline guidelines and policies for the mechanical equipment group.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate the activities of various equipment design teams in the Oak Ridge office.
  • Develop and promote regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.
  • Prepare multi-discipline proposals and cost estimates, alone and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist project managers in tracking task progress (schedule and cost), scope (change management), design issues and staffing requirements.
  • Ensure staffing needs are adequate to support the activities in the Oak Ridge office, and coordinate resources with leads in other disciplines and Merrick offices.
  • Promote professional development amongst the team members.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience for either (or combination) NRC, DOE or DoD projects.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading mechanical engineering teams within a complex multi discipline team is essential.
  • Familiarity with 3D design software (Pro/E, SolidWorks, Siemens NX[highly desireable]) desired.
  • Experience with supplier support, factory testing and field startup desirable.
  • Familiarity with MS Project or Primavera Sur-Trak a plus.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • PE license required. Candidate will be expected to obtain a PE license in North Carolina & Tennessee.
  • Active or recently inactive security clearance required.
  • PMP certification or related post graduate studies desirable.
